(WWJ) - A Washington Township man has been arraigned following an alleged domestic violence incident.
31-year-old Washington Twp. resident Dewitt Bunting was arraigned on Jan. 5 in 42-1 District Court on charges stemming from “allegedly handcuffing his girlfriend without her consent and assaulting her in their Washington Twp. apartment on Wednesday, January 3, 2024,” authorities said.
Bunting has been charged with unlawful imprisonment, assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of cocaine less than 25g, resisting and obstructing a police officer, felony firearm, and domestic violence second offense.

Macomb County Sheriff’s Office Deputies said they were called out to the Stony Creek Apartments in Washington Township on Jan. 3 for an alleged domestic violence incident. When the deputies arrived, the suspect refused to exit the apartment.
The victim told deputies that “her roommate/friend assaulted her in the evening of January 2, 2024,” the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office said in a written statement. “Additionally, he handcuffed her and demanded she remain in his bed all night. The assault continued January 3, 2024, where the suspect also threatened the victim with a handgun.”
The victim was able to get out of the apartment around 4 p.m. and called for help. A “good Samaritan” also made a call to authorities.
The Sheriff’s Enforcement Team Detectives responded as well to help get the suspect to leave the apartment.
Deputies said they saw the suspect exit the apartment around 5 p.m.
The suspect “fled on foot and resisted arrest,” the MCSO statement said. “He was tased to gain compliance. The suspect was taken into custody and an unregistered handgun was found on his person.”
During the arraignment, the judge set bond at $500,000. If he is released, Bunting must wear a GPS tether, have drug and alcohol testing and may not have contact with the victim or the apartment complex where the incident occurred.
A Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for Jan. 16 and a Preliminary Exam is scheduled for Jan. 23.
