MACOMB COUNTY (WWJ) - A 30-year-old man was apprehended by police after he allegedly set fire to family home in Macomb County early Thursday morning.
The Macomb County Sheriff's Office said statements from the homeowner, who was forced to evacuate his family from their Richmond Township home off Pratt Road, led them straight to the arrest of a male suspect.
According to deputies, the homeowner reported hearing a loud noise while inside around 3 a.m. before going to investigate. That was when he noticed flames shooting from the garage and got his family, that included two adults and three children, out to safety.
When sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene, they found the attached garage fully engulfed in flames with heavy smoke.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
During their investigation, the homeowner made deputies aware of a possible suspect, identified as a 30-year-old man from Richmond.
"The male resident stated he observed and identified the suspect leaving his front yard and entering his vehicle, which was parked on the road adjacent to the property," the sheriff's office added.
Deputies went to the suspect's home, where they arrested him in connection to the arson investigation and lodged him at the Macomb County Jail.
Sheriff Wickersham praised the joint efforts of Macomb County Sheriff's Deputies and other responding law enforcement and fire agencies on the case.
"Their abilities to jointly navigate this difficult situation surely led to the timely resolution of this incident," Wickersham stated.
