MACOMB TWP. (WWJ) -- Macomb County Sheriff's investigators continue to pursue a suspect in a broad daylight shooting outside a Macomb Township home.
The shooting happened Tuesday in the driveway of a 7,000-square foot mansion in the area of 24 Mile Rd. and Foss, between North Avenue and Romeo Plank.
The homeowner and victim, identified as longtime Macomb County resident and businessman Eddie Jawad, was injured by gunfire and briefly hospitalized.
According to authorities, the 61-year-old Jawad was able to shoot back, and the suspect fled the scene. It's unclear if the suspect was also wounded.
It's also unclear why anyone would target Jawad, who owns multiple gas stations in the Metro Detroit area.
Jawad is a personal acquaintance to many in the community, including Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido, who is fired up about what happened.
"It's outrageous that somebody's trying to take somebody's life, coming down their driveway to go to work!" Lucido said, speaking to WWJ Newsradio 950's Jon Hewett on Wednesday. "They're lying in wait, ready to kill the man!"
"'Why are they shooting at the man is not what I wanna know. It's what are we gonna do about this behavior? I wanna take it out of Macomb, and ultimately — when this person is found, or persons — they're gonna be brought to justice."
Lucido said, thankfully, Jawad is doing OK. He was released from the hospital on Tuesday, had dinner with his family and is already back at work.
Lucido said Jawad is a good business man who contributes to his community. "And he is the kinda guy who will not let this bother him. He's gonna continue to do what he does best, and that is make things happen."
Meanwhile, the sheriff's office said deputies are still looking for a dark-colored SUV that was seen speeding east on 24 Mile Road after Jawad was shot.
More than one suspect may have been involved in the shooting, according to investigators.
There is no further description of the shooter at this time.
Anyone with information about the suspect, or who has video footage, is asked to call the sheriff's office at 586-307-9358.
