
MACOMB COUNTY (WWJ) – While water pressure has been restored in five Macomb County communities following a major water main break on Tuesday, they remain under a Boil Water Advisory.
Chesterfield Township, Lenox Township, Macomb Township, New Haven, and the city of Rochester (Rochester East – GLWA District) will be under the advisory until further notice. About 150,000 people are under the advisory.
Local officials are stepping up to help residents in the affected areas get bottled water.
As of Tuesday night, Chesterfield Twp. had distributed more about 1,400 cases of water and more than 400 cases were handed out in Macomb Township.
On Wednesday, Macomb Township residents can get one case of water per household at the Macomb Township Offices – located at 54111 Broughton Road – starting at 9 a.m. until supplies last.
In Chesterfield Twp., water will be distributed at Fire Station 3 at 33991 23 Mile Road, beginning at 8 a.m.
Lenox Township residents were able to get one case per household at the Township EMS Station at 59970 Gratiot Avenue until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Officials had not clarified whether water will be available Wednesday.
Wesley Farm Market in New Haven was giving out gallons of water Tuesday and selling cases of bottled water at normal prices. They had not given word on availability for Wednesday.
Officials with the city of Rochester have not released any information about water distribution.
Each community may release updated information on water distribution sites on Wednesday.
A 36-inch water pipe ruptured on 24 Mile Road near North Avenue. Officials say 24 Mile is expected to remain closed between North and Fairchild Road for about two weeks as crews work to repair the pipe.
Officials said earlier Tuesday the Boil Water Advisory was expected to last for at least two days.
