(WWJ) — A Macomb County man was arrested over the weekend after allegedly leaving his kids home alone.
The sheriff’s office was called to a home on Blossom Lane in Macomb Township around 9:15 a.m. Saturday after getting reports of three young children standing unaccompanied near the street.
Officials say the children, all under the age of 4, were also inappropriately dressed for the cold weather, wearing no shoes or winter jackets.
Deputies saw the address in question had children’s toys in the yard and the sliding door was open. They performed a welfare check inside the home, but no adults were home, according to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities then got in touch with the children’s 36-year-old father, who admitted to leaving the children home alone. The Macomb Twp. man returned to the scene and was taken into custody without incident.
He was initially lodged at the Macomb County Jail, but has since bonded out. The sheriff’s office did not say whether the man will face any charges.
The three children were all checked out by medical staff due to the weather conditions and turned over to their mother after being cleared.
“I am appalled at the decision of the suspect to leave his very young children home alone, to fend for themselves,” Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said, per a press release. “We are so thankful for the good Samaritan who initially stopped and tended to these children until Deputies arrived.”
