Macomb County man in custody after sneaking into home through crawl space, abducting 5-week-old baby

RICHMOND TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- A man is in custody after he allegedly snuck into a house and took his child.

WWJ’s Sandra McNeil reports that authorities were called out to a home in Richmond Township on Thursday morning on reports of a missing baby, as well as a missing vehicle.

The man, who has no parental rights to the child, apparently crawled under the house, entered through a crawl space, and then made off with the 5-week-old girl and the mother’s car.

State Troopers were about to issue an Amber Alert when the baby was reported to Madison Heights police.

Workers at a local business heard a child crying and discovered the baby had been left in a carseat on the sidewalk. She was taken to the hospital to be checked out, and then reunited with her mother.

Police are now questioning the suspect, who was found in Troy a short time later and is said to have mental health issues.

Charges against the man are pending.
