DETROIT (WWJ) — A man is in police custody after allegedly pointing his gun at another driver during a traffic jam on a busy Detroit freeway.
The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. Thursday along eastbound I-94 near Grand River Avenue, according to Michigan State Police.
Troopers were handling a traffic crash on the freeway when a driver stopped and reported someone had just pointed a gun at them.
He told troopers that the suspect "had a case of road rage" in the traffic backup that was caused by the crash.
Troopers radioed the vehicle description and other troopers in the area were able to catch up to the suspect's car and stop him near Woodward Avenue.
The driver, a 47-year-old man from Macomb County's Ray Township, was arrested and found to be in possession of a gun. Authorities say the suspect had a valid CPL for the gun.
"Here is another example of a CPL holder not being able to handle their emotions because traffic was slowed due to a crash. This suspect lost their cool, grabbed an accessible hand gun and put others at risk. We are lucky he didn't pull the trigger," MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said.
Authorities have not released the suspect's name. No charging information has been released, as the case is still under prosecutor review.
