NEW BALTIMORE (WWJ) -- After three days on the run, a person of interest in Tuesday's New Baltimore bank robbery was arrested in Illinois during an encounter where he allegedly pointed a weapon at a police officer.

Jacob Edwards, 18, of Macomb Township is now suspected of multiple felonies, including bank robbery and carjacking, across several states.

The string of offenses began Tuesday afternoon, when a young man alluded to having a gun and robbed Huntington Bank on Washington Street in New Baltimore.

After tracking the suspect to the scene of a car crash in nearby Anchor Bay, authorities later spotted the alleged thief on Ring doorbell footage in the area of Hall Rd and Heydenreich Tuesday evening. Local residents were advised to be cautious, as he was considered armed and dangerous.

In a Thursday update, investigators named Edwards as their likely suspect and released photos of the 18-year-old and the vehicle they believed he was driving -- a bronze or brown 2016 Volkswagen Jetta with Michigan plates.

Police were also monitoring Edwards' social media accounts -- one of which placed the elusive suspect in Port Austin, in Michigan's Thumb area -- thought they were still working to confirm that Edwards himself was posting the updates.

Around midnight Friday, Indiana State Police issued an All Points Bulletin for a black Ford F-150 taken in a carjacking near Lafayette.

Authorities said the driver of the stolen Ford F-150 -- believed to be Edwards -- fled the scene of the carjacking and lead police on a chase that eventually ended in Illinois when the suspect crashed into a field and ran away from the scene.

By Friday afternoon, New Baltimore police confirmed to WWJ that Edwards was in custody following a confrontation with Illinois police. Officials say Edwards pointed a gun at an officer during the encounter and was shot in the arm in response.

Edwards is expected to recover from his injury.

According to New Baltimore Chief of Police Michael K. Mertens, because Edwards committed felonies in multiple states, he will be charged and prosecuted at the federal level.
