CLINTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- A woman from Macomb County is facing life in prison without parole following the death of her 1-month-old daughter.

31-year-old Kia Emon Barkley of Clinton Township is accused of shaking the infant and throwing her to the ground during an incident that took place on March 15.

The 1-month-old girl was taken to the hospital, where she later died nearly a month later from her injuries.

During an arraignment on Thursday at 41B Clinton Township District Court, Barkley was charged with felony murder and first-degree child abuse.

If convicted, Barkley faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Barkley’s bond has been set at $1 million, and she will next appear in court on June 20 for a probably cause hearing.
