(WWJ) Attempted murder and weapons charges have been filed against a man suspected of shooting a Macomb County businessman last week.

Jasan Martin, 32, was arrested Sunday in Warren several days after businessman Eddie Jawad was ambushed and shot in his SUV at his home on 24 Mile Road in Macomb Township.

Sheriff Anthony Wickersham says investigators were able to track the suspect's SUV, which had a stolen license plate, to a home in Detroit. Further detective work led investigators to Eastpointe and then to Warren where Martin was arrested by a team consisting of Macomb County Sheriff’s Office SWAT, Warren Police Department, the FBI Violent Crimes and Gang Task Force.

"During our search for the suspect, he continually turned his phone on and off to avoid detection," Wickersham said.

Wickersham says the suspect did make comments to investigators about the shooting. "We do have witness accounts about the shooting, we have statements from the suspect about a stolen plate and his involvement in the shooting."

The motive is still unknown, however Wickersham said investigators believe it was completely unrelated to Sheetz and the company's move to build gas stations and convenience stores in Metro Detroit.

"I know some individuals that work with Sheetz and media outlets were calling out to Sheetz in Pennsylvania wanting a comment and you know, it's kind of a bad thing to throw at a corporation," Wickersham said.

Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido said Martin was on parole from Ohio where he faced charges that included kidnapping, armed robbery and assault with a dangerous weapon.

Martin was expected to be arraigned on Wednesday afternoon.

If convicted, he faces life in prison.

Jawad is recovering from his injuries.
