ROYAL OAK TWP. (WWJ) – An Oak Park man is looking at a long list of charges, including first-degree murder, after allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend to death in front of their child at an Oakland County car dealership last weekend.

Gregory Davis, 44, was arraigned Tuesday on one count each of first-degree murder, attempted murder, felon in possession of a firearm and felonious assault, as well as four counts of felony firearm, second offense.

The charges stem from an incident Saturday morning at Legend Motors of Ferndale at 8 Mile and Wyoming.

Davis allegedly followed the victim, a 40-year-old Sterling Heights woman, to the parking lot of the dealership where she worked and used his car to block hers in, according to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.

When the woman got out of the car to go get help, he allegedly shot her as she ran away. He then shot her again at a close range with a 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun, according to the prosecutor’s office.

He allegedly stole the shotgun from someone else, prosecutors say.

Their 10-year-old child witnessed the shooting from the passenger seat of their mother’s car.

After shooting the victim, Davis allegedly pointed the gun and shot at additional individuals, though no one was hit.

Davis surrendered to police later that same day. He was denied bond and remains in custody at the Oakland County Jail.

“This is a horrific and tragic incident,” Prosecutor Karen McDonald said, per a press release. “Every month an average of 70 women are shot and killed by an intimate partner in this country. This event occurred in a place of business where other employees were just a few feet away. My office has charged this individual with first-degree murder, the most serious charge under Michigan law, and we will vigorously prosecute this perpetrator for his alleged actions.”

If convicted of first-degree murder, Davis could spend life in prison without the possibility of parole.
