WATERFORD TWP. (WWJ) -- An elderly man and woman are dead in what investigators believe was a murder-suicide.
According to Waterford Police Chief Scott Underwood, officers responded just before 6 p.m. Wednesday to a home on Crescent Road on a report of two dead residents.
When officers arrived, they found a 97-year-old woman and a 96-year-old man both seated in the living room with fatal gunshot wounds, Underwood said.
A handgun was recovered at the scene.
Detectives responded and determined that both the man and the woman had an "extensive medical history." Their names were not released.
Underwood said a preliminary investigation indicates this was a murder-suicide.
The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct autopsies, scheduled for Thursday.
