(WWJ) A 63-year-old man is behind bars after it's alleged that he fatally shot a woman and then got into a shootout with police in Saginaw.
Michigan State Police troopers responded at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday to reports of a shooting at a home on Cathay Street, but the suspect had already fled with the victim: a 47-year-old woman.
The suspect had the victim in his car when he was pulled over near Holland Ave. and Outer Dr,, police said.
It's alleged the man rammed the trooper's patrol car and then exchanged gunfire with police before he was taken into custody.
The woman was taken to a hospital where she later died of her injuries, MSP said.
No officers were shot or injured.
The suspect, who also was uninjured, was taken to the Saginaw County Jail to await charges.
At this time, it's unclear what led up to the initial shooting, as the investigation continues. Police did not say how the suspect and the victim know each other.
