Suspect arrested after 8-year-old girl's arm run over on I-94, Dearborn man injured in domestic incident on the freeway

ROMULUS (WWJ) -- An 8-year-old child is recovering after falling out of an SUV on I-94 during a domestic dispute.

Michigan State Police said it happened at around 9 p.m. Monday on the westbound freeway near the Vining exit.

Authorities said a 51-year-old Dearborn man told police the 36-year-old suspect was sitting behind him in the car when an argument escalated to physical violence, an the suspect started punching him.

The victim pulled over to the shoulder to let the suspect out, and the suspect's young daughter tried to get out of the car while it was in motion.

She fell out and her arm was run over, MSP said. She was placed in the care of her grandmother, police said, and taken to Children’s Hospital for treatment.

The Dearborn man also suffered a serious eye injury, police said.

It was later determined that the suspect was at a local hospital seeking medical treatment. That's where he was taken into custody.

His name was not immediately released, with charges pending.

MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said, in a statement: “Troopers are continuing their investigation into this assault and will submit an investigators report to the prosecutor.
