GROVELAND TWP. (WWJ) -- A man is in the Oakland County Jail facing drunk driving and other potential charges after police found him asleep in his damaged car.
According to officials with the Michigan State Police Metro North Post, troopers on patrol encountered the suspect on June 17, when they stopped to get gas at a station in Groveland Township.
In the parking lot, MSP said the troopers spotted a running vehicle with heavy front end crash damage. When they approached, they found the driver asleep behind the wheel.
When they woke the driver up, the troopers "noticed multiple signs of intoxication" along with the driver "making incoherent statements regarding his circumstances," a spokesman for the MSP Second District said.
After the driver failed some field sobriety tests, the man was arrested on suspicious of impaired driving.
During a search of the vehicle, the troopers found a loaded Glock 17 pistol was located in the center console. MSP did not immediately say whether the man has a CPL.
The suspect was taken to jail to await an arraignment on expected charges, pending prosecutor review. His name and age were not immediately released.
