LAKE ORION (WWJ) A man is in custody for breaking into a pasty shop in Lake Orion and vet in Orion Charter Township.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called to Peters Pasties on Lapeer near Silverbelt around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday for a reported breaking and entering.

The owner of the business told investigators he got alerted on his cellphone that the store's indoor cameras had been activated. On the footage, he saw a man taking money from the cash register. The owner dialed 911.

Deputies began to search the area after receiving security footage screen grabs from the owner.

They caught up with the suspect, 39, of Orion Township, walking around the parking lot of the Red Roof Inn Lake Orion/Auburn Hills less than a mile from the pasty shop. He then entered a room, the sheriff's office said.

The suspect tried to exit as deputies approached the room. They placed him under arrest. While searching his room, they found the missing cash register from the pasty shop, along with several animal prescription bottles and three blank checks from the Donaldson Animal Hospital, also on Lapeer Rd.

One of the blank checks had been written out in the suspect's name for $512. After further investigation, deputies found that the Donaldson Animal Hospital had also been broken into.
