ROYAL OAK TWSP. (WWJ) -- A suspect is behind bars after police responded to a report of an armed sexual assault in Oakland County over the weekend.
At approximately 7:50 a.m. on Sunday, Michigan State Police said troopers were dispatched to the scene of the assault at the Baymont Inn along Eight Mile Road in Royal Oak Township.
Upon arrival, they found the victim -- but the suspect had already fled the scene.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect was armed with a handgun during the assault.

After receiving a positive description from the victim and using video from the lobby and parking lot, troopers were able to identify the 36-year-old suspect.
Later that day, detectives executed a search warrant at the Detroit man's house, where they found a pistol in his vehicle.
The suspect was jailed pending charges.
