Port Huron (WWJ) A North Carolina man has been arrested and arraigned for driving to the thumb area to meet a woman he met on a social media site, while possessing several guns, ammunition, open liquor, prescription, and illegal drugs, police said.
Port Huron Police said an officer noticed a blue Honda Civic parked at the Marathon Gas Station on Military Street Monday around 1:30 a.m. Inside, police say Emory Lewis, 40, was slumped over a stealing wheel and a child, 11, was playing with Pokemon cards in the backseat. Beside the child sat a loaded gun.
As the officer tried to wake Lewis, he saw another handgun, a .223 rifle, and a shotgun—all loaded. The car also contained illegal drugs and prescription drugs, according to police.
Police say an investigation revealed Lewis drove from North Carolina to meet the Michigan woman he met on social media. He was also driving on a suspended license and had no permit to carry a firearm.
He was taken into custody at the St. Clair County Intervention Center for Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Child Endangerment/Operating Under the Influence of Drugs, Possession of Dangerous Drugs, Possession of a Firearm while Intoxicated, and Driving on a Suspended License.
His son was taken into the care of the Department of Human Services. Arrangements are being made to get him home with relatives in North Carolina.
Lewis was given a $15,000 bond. He is due back in court June 1st.
