(WWJ) A Grosse Pointe man is jailed on 48 felony counts in connection with the armed robbery and sexual assault of two women at a dollar store.
Antonio Lee Cotton — who was listed of one of the FBI's Most Wanted — was arraigned in 36th District Court on July 6 for alleged crimes on Nov. 30, 2020.
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, Detroit Police officers responded to a 911 call at that night from the store, located in the the 20430 block of Van Dyke in Detroit.
Upon arrival, officers were directed to the victims: a 43-year-old woman and a 56-year-old woman who were employees of the store. It is alleged, prosecutors say, that Cotton entered the store to as a customer, pulled out a handgun and robbed and sexually assaulted the victims. He then fled the scene.
Cotton is charged with the following:
• 2 counts of torture
• 2 counts kidnapping
• 2 counts of armed robbery
• 11 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct
• 6 counts of felonious assault
• 1 count of felon and possession of a firearm
• 24 counts of felony firearm (using a firearm in the commission of a felony)
The FBI had been searching for Cotton who was wanted for robbing two more dollar stores, a Dollar Tree in Detroit and Dollar Tree in Eastpointe, in May of this year.
Cotton was remanded into custody in the Wayne County Jail following his Tuesday court appearance, and a Probable Cause Conference was scheduled for July 13.
Cotton faces up to life in prison if convicted in this case.
