WINDSOR (WWJ) – A Toronto man is facing arson charges after police found him near the scene of a home explosion in Windsor over the weekend.

Windsor police were called to a home on Aspen Lane in the Forest Glade community around 4 a.m. Sunday following a "deliberate house explosion."

When authorities showed up they found the home was completely leveled, consistent with an explosion. Several neighboring properties had also sustained damage.

As officers set up a perimeter around the scene, they found a man nearby with serious injuries and his clothes smelling of an accelerant.

The man, later identified as a 24-year-old from Toronto, was taken to the hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators with Windsor Police's Arson Unit were deployed and determined that the explosion was criminal in nature. Authorities haven't released any other details about the explosion, including what triggered it or a possible motive in the case.

The suspect has been charged with one count of arson with disregard for human life and one count of arson causing damage to property.

Police are still investigating and are asking anyone who knows something about the case to call the Windsor Police Arson Unit at 519-255-6700, ext. 4330. They can also contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.catchcrooks.com.
