PONTIAC, Mich. (WWJ) -- A 31-year-old metro Detroit man is jailed on murder charges after authorities say he choked his boyfriend to death in a fight over a video game.

Docquen Jovo Watkins was arraigned Sunday on one count of second degree murder, and was ordered held without bond in the Oakland County Jail.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, Watkins murdered his longtime boyfriend, 28-year-old Roy Teasley of Pontiac, late on the night of Jan. 6, after the couple argued while playing the popular game “Overwatch.”

Deputies responded to the apartment Watkins and Teasley shared in the 10 block of Carter, shortly before midnight, to investigate a report of a domestic assault. The sheriff's office said Watkins told a 911 dispatcher that he and his boyfriend had gotten into a fight and that his boyfriend was “sleeping” on the couch.

Deputies found Teasley unconscious and not breathing, officials said. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“We see far too often across the country these days when people resort to violence over trivial and insignificant disagreements,” said Sheriff Mike Bouchard, in a statement. “There is never a reason where violence is acceptable over a disagreement. Those that do so will be held accountable.”

Watkins will be back in 50th District Court for a probable cause conference set for Jan. 18, followed by a preliminary exam scheduled for Jan. 25.

Officials said the two men had been together for 10 years prior to the slaying.
