(WWJ) A Detroit man has been charged in mutilating the body of a young woman from Livingston County.
Wayne County Prosecutor's Office charged Dowan Knighton, 47, for crimes against Kayla Pierce.
Detroit Police say Pierce, 29, was reported missing by her mother around Thanksgiving of last year.
After more than two months, a joint investigation with the Detroit Police, Michigan State Police and the Livingston County Sheriff's Office revealed a tragic ending.
"The lifeless remains of Ms. Pierce were found in the rear of a location in Detroit," a Detroit Police press release said.
Knighton was taken into custody at the scene.
No other details have been released.
The Detroit News reports she was last seen at a gas station in Howell. Her car was found abandoned in Detroit shortly after her disappearance.
She is survived by two children, 10 and 3. A GoFund Me Page has been set up to help them.
Knighton has been charged with Mutilation Of A Body, Concealing The Death Of An Individual, and Tampering With Evidence. He is being held on a $50,000/10% bond. He is due back in court February 25.
