KALKASKA COUNTY (WWJ) – A man is facing charges for stealing a cabin in Northern Michigan. Yes, a cabin.
Jeremy James Knoll of Kalkaska has been charged with one count of receiving and concealing stolen property after Michigan State Police discovered a cabin that had been reported stolen on his property.
MSP officials at the Houghton Lake Post began asking for help in the case last February after the 12x28 cabin was stolen from a property in Cold Springs Township sometime between Nov. 18 and Dec. 16, 2021.
Troopers followed up on multiple tips from the public on various cabins that matched the description of the stolen cabin and executed several search warrants on cellular devices.
Investigators were finally led to Knoll, 43, and he became a suspect when the cabin was found on his property during a search warrant.
Knoll allegedly attempted to conceal the cabin on his property by erecting large pieces of sheet metal around it as well as altering its appearance, according to MSP.
Officials didn’t say how Knoll allegedly pulled off the theft.
Troopers found matching serial numbers from inside the stolen cabin.
An arrest warrant was authorized on Dec. 27, 2022 and Knoll was arrested on New Year’s Day. He was arraigned on the count of receiving and concealing stolen property, $1,000-$20,000 and given a $20,000 10% bond. His next court date is scheduled for Feb. 27.
Authorities say the investigation is still ongoing and there could be more arrests in the case.
