INDEPENDENCE TWP., MICH. (WWJ) A rollover crash in northern Oakland County has left a man in critical condition.
The Oakland County Sheriff said the Goodrich man, 53, drove through the intersection on M-15 at Dixie Highway in Independence Township around 1 a.m. Wednesday and ended up in the parking lot of a car dealership. He crashed into a pole.
The SUV turned over, burst into flames and trapped the driver inside, according to the sheriff's office.
Authorities told WWJ the man was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown into the backseat.
They add that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.
The Independence Township Fire Department extinguished the fire and freed the man. He was rushed to the hospital.
No one else was injured.
The Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash.
