BLOOMFIELD TWP. (WWJ) — A Bloomfield Hills man has been charged after speeding away from police and crashing his truck while drunk.

Justin Luark was arraigned over the weekend on charges of second-degree fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, operating while intoxicated and driving without a license.

Shortly before 1 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, Bloomfield Twp. police got a call about a possible drunk driver on Telegraph Road near Lone Pine Road. Callers told police a white Toyota Tacoma was "swerving all over the road and running red lights."

When officers got to the area they saw the truck on Telegraph approaching Square Lake Road at a high rate of speed. Officers turned on their lights and sirens and tried to stop the truck, but the driver didn't pull over.

Police officials say Luark's truck was "crossing over all lanes of traffic and was traveling at speeds excess of 100 mph."

As he approached Humphrey Avenue, the truck hit a curb, drove over the center median into the southbound lanes, went into a ditch and then crashed into a tree, according to police.

Luark was ordered to the ground when he got out of the truck, but he took off running, police said. He was eventually taken into custody after a short foot chase.

Authorities did not say whether Luark was injured in the crash.

Luark smelled of alcohol and authorities found a small baggie of pills suspected to be Oxycodone, officials said. He was brought to the police station, where he blew a BAC of .153%.

Bond was set at $8,000 cash. The pills were sent to a lab to be tested and further charges could be filed when results are returned.
