DETROIT (WWJ) — A man was found dead inside a burning Detroit home Thursday morning, though officials say the death does not appear to have been caused by the blaze.
The Detroit Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire in the 13300 block of Longview in the area of Chalmers and Outer Drive on the city's east side around 9:50 a.m.
When they arrived on the scene, a family member told the battalion chief that someone might still be inside the home. Firefighters were able to get in through the back of the home, going past an active kitchen fire into another room, where they found the man dead.
Authorities confirmed the man's death did not appear to be caused by the fire, though an official cause of death has not been revealed.
Police were immediately notified of the discovery. Additional fire companies responded to the location and successfully extinguished the flames.
The Detroit Police Department and the Fire Investigation Division continue investigating the incident.
