DETROIT (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police are searching for answers Monday morning after a young man was discovered fatally shot on the ramp from northbound Southfield Freeway (M-39) to I-96.
WWJ's Charlie Langton reported from the scene, where authorities responded to calls about a body in the road around 3:30 a.m.
When troopers arrived, they found that the 22-year-old victim had died of a gunshot wound and had been left on the freeway.
With assistance from the Detroit Police Department, MSP closed off northbound M-39 at Plymouth Rd to investigate.
No vehicles were found in the vicinity, and it is unclear whether the man was shot at the scene or if the deadly injury was inflicted elsewhere and his body discarded on the ramp.
MSP technicians and K-9 units walked the closed stretch M-39 for nearly five hours, gathering evidence. They were unable to find any bullet casings.
Northbound M-39 has since re-opened at Plymouth Rd.
If you have any information about the incident, or if you have dashcam footage from northbound M-39 from before or around the time the body was discovered, you are asked to call MSP at 855-MICH-TIP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak-Up.
