DETROIT (WWJ) - A man sitting in his vehicle outside his home on Outer Drive in West Detroit was shot dead early Thursday morning, authorities said.
WWJ's Charlie Langton is reporting live from the scene at Outer Drive W., in between Appoline Street and Meyers Road with Detroit Police officers around a black Mercedes sedan where the man was found.
Langton said it is unclear if the man was shot backing out of his driveway as the car came to rest of the median of Outer Drive. Langton said the scene is very active with police officers blocking the area off in both directions and putting up yellow tape.
Police did confirm the victim, a man in his 50s, was dead.
Neighbors began to gather on the street and expressed their shock to Langton.
"They just can't understand it," he reported.
Neighbors told Langton that the victim was a family man and worked for Wayne County; he had lived in the yellow-tan brick house for over a decade and was a "good guy."
Langton said officers are on site and are beginning their investigation. No further details were released.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned to WWJ LIVE for the latest updates.
