PLYMOUTH (WWJ) -- A man who fell asleep while driving home from work was injured after he crashed into a police car.

Michigan State Police say the man is in stable condition after he was pinned in his car that hit a Plymouth Township police car on the ramp from M-14 to I-275 late Monday night.

The driver of the Pontiac Grand AM entered the curved ramp too fast and lost control of the vehicle on the left shoulder. The car spun sideways and struck the rear of the parked patrol car.

The police car had its emergency lights on as officers were responding to another crash at the time of the accident. The officer was not hurt.

The injured driver told police he had just left work and had fallen asleep at the wheel.

State police say the investigation is ongoing.
