COMMERCE TWP (WWJ) A Troy father was hospitalized after he and his son crashed into each other’s jet skis on an Oakland County lake, the sheriff’s office said.
In a statement, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday on Union Lake in Commerce Township. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team and Commerce Township Fire Department paramedics responded to Barnsbury (8000 block) near Willow and Union Lake Road on reports of two personal watercrafts (PWC) that had collided.
The father and his son, 18 also of Troy, were both operating separate PWCs when the father “mistakenly” drove into the path of his son’s jet ski; according to the sheriff’s office.
“The two vessels collided, forcing the son’s PWC to become airborne and run over the top of his father,” the statement read.
The father, 45, was rushed to the hospital where he is being treated for “serious injuries"; the sheriff’s office said.
According to the sheriff’s office, both men had life jackets on. Investigators said they were not under the influence of alcohol.
