HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ) – A man is dead after being shot while investigating a noise heard outside his home early Saturday morning in Highland Park.
The shooting happened around 6:30 a.m. Saturday on W. Buena Vista Street, according to Michigan State Police.
MSP officials say the victim's girlfriend heard a noise outside and the man went to check it out. Once outside, the victim got into a confrontation with a person by his car.
First Lt. Mike Shaw said the victim was "shot and killed right there in the yard" and the shooter fled the scene.
Authorities have not released the victim's name. Shaw said police have some leads in the case, but cannot release any other information at this time.
Shaw noted the shooting is not related to a triple homicide in which two rappers and their friend were found in an abandoned Highland Park apartment building.
