MONROE (WWJ) -- A Monroe man was killed by a hit-and-run driver as he was leaving a fireworks show at Michigan state park Monday night.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said the victim, 35-year-old David Rebels II, was on foot with another person on State Park Drive at around 11 p.m. after attending the Allen Chevrolet Cadillac Firework Festival at Sterling State Park in Frenchtown Township.
While walking in the roadway, just outside the park, Rebels was hit by a black Ford F-150, officials said.
Rebels was taken to Corewell Health Hospital in Trenton where he died of his injuries.
Investigators said the 23-year-old pickup driver fled the scene after hitting Rebels, but was later tracked down and arrested with help from witnesses who described the vehicle.
The driver's name has not yet been released. He remains held in the Monroe County Jail, with expected charges pending.
