Man killed in burning Southfield home despite rescue efforts by fire crews

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - One man was killed on Thursday afternoon after a home in Southfield went up in flames, officials confirmed.

The Southfield Police Department said authorities were called out to the home in the 24000 block of Philip Drive just before 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18 on reports of a fire.

When first responders got to the scene, they found thick black smoke coming from the home and immediately launched an offensive attack.

Authorities made entry into the home where they found a man. Medics immediately rendered aid before he was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The man was the sole occupant inside the home at the time of the fire, the department added.

The victim's identity has not been released. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time, police stated.
