PONTIAC (WWJ) -- A young man is dead and a young woman is hospitalized after a shooting at a convenience store in Metro Detroit.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office says the shooting happened just before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at store near Cesar Chavez and Cass Avenue in Pontiac.
According to investigators, a 21-year-old Pontiac man was at the counter making a purchase when he was "assaulted from behind" by 23-year-old Darien Bragg and Brag's girlfriend.
After all three people fell to the floor, it's alleged that the 21-year-old man drew a hanfgun and fired a single shot, hitting Brag in the chest.
Sheriff's officials said the bullet traveled through Brag's body and struck his girlfriend in the stomach.
Brag died at the scene.
The woman, identified as a 23-year-old Pontiac resident, was taken to a hospital in serious condition.
Authorities have not said what prompted the initial assault, but noted that the young woman was also the ex-girlfriend of the shooter.
The shooter tried to pay for his items after the shooting, waited at the scene for deputies to arrive, and was taken into custody, the sheriff's office said. His name has not yet been released.
No charges have been announced, as the OSCO said the case is awaiting prosecutor review.
