GREEN OAK TWP. (WWJ) -- A man is fighting for his life after he got caught in an auger while on the job in Livingston County, Wednesday morning.
Fire officials told WWJ Newsradio 950 that Livingston County EMS and Green Oak Township Fire were called to the area of Fieldcrest and Silver Lake Rd., near US-23, a little after 10 a.m.
When they arrived, they found a 31-year-old man "in and under" an auger — which is a spiral-type tool used for boring holes in wood, soil or ice.
The man was extricated, treated by EMS, and then taken by ATV to a nearby church. From there, he was life-flighted to University of Michigan Sparrow Hospital in Lansing with life-threatening injuries.
According to Green Oak Fire, the man was collecting soil samples at the time of the incident, but it's unclear how he ended up trapped by the machine.
There is no update on the man's condition at this time.
