Police in Detroit are investigating a bold freeway shooting overnight involving an off-duty officer that left her and the aggressor with bullet wounds.
The incident happened around midnight along I-75 near Springwells in Detroit.
The officer was traveling southbound when her vehicle was allegedly rear ended by a black Ford F-150. As she attempted to get away, the 34-year-old suspect hit her car again and pinned it against a construction barrier wall.
Police say the suspect then exited his vehicle and exchanged gunfire with the officer.
Both were struck during the shooting.
The officer was able to escape -- she was taken to the hospital with a graze wound and is in stable condition. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
Southbound I-75 was closed for several hours as police collected evidence at the scene. An investigation continues.
