DETROIT (WWJ) -- A Detroit man who allegedly pointed a phony gun during a robbery is facing up to life in prison if convicted.
Harold Edward Smith, 53, is charged with armed robbery connection with his alleged crime last week in Grosse Pointe Farms.
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, Smith walked into a grocery store in the 18300 block of Mack Avenue at around 7:40 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15, and stole multiple bottles of alcohol.
As Smith left the store, he was confronted by an employee. That's when it's alleged that Smith pointed a fake handgun at the employee before fleeing the scene.
No one was hurt.
Following an investigation by the Grosse Pointe Farms Public Safety Department, Smith was arrested over the weekend.
Smith was arraigned in Grosse Pointe Farms Municipal Court on Tuesday and given a $150,000 cash/surety bond. His next court appearance is a Probable Cause Conference scheduled for Feb. 28 at noon.
In Michigan, armed robbery is punishable by any terms of years up to life in prison.
