DETROIT (WWJ) – Two people are recovering after they were caught in the crossfire of a shooting in downtown Detroit late Friday night.

Detroit police officials say a 17-year-old girl and a 22-year-old man were walking in the area of Cadillac Square and Randolph – a couple blocks east of Campus Martius Park – when they were shot.

It happened just before midnight on Friday when two groups of men got into a verbal argument that escalated to gunfire.

Authorities said the victims just happened to be walking by at the time of the incident and weren’t involved with the suspects.

Both victims were taken to the hospital and were listed in stable condition on Sunday. Authorities did not release the names of the victims and their conditions were not clear on Wednesday.

Officials have not released any details about what led to the initial argument between the two groups or what made it boil over to gunfire.

Detroit police have released photos of two suspects involved in the incident.
