SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) A man under the influence of an opioid overdose crashed his car in Oakland County and ended up in critical condition, Michigan State Police said (MSP).
MSP said the crash happened on Wednesday, April 1st, at 10:20 p.m. on northbound Southfield at Nine Mile.
According to MSP, the driver was driving northbound in the right lane of Southfield when he lost control and rear-ended a second car, then the guardrail.
Further investigation revealed the passenger of the at-fault vehicle had passed out from an opioid overdose, MSP said.
He is hospitalized in critical condition and undergoing treatment for his overdose.
Southfield Police called Metro North troopers to the scene to close the ramp from the northbound Lodge to Southfield amid the crash investigation.
