EASTPOINTE (WWJ) - A murder suspect was arrested on Friday after a man walked into the Eastpointe Police station in the afternoon hours and reported his uncle had been fatally shot inside his home.

In a further twist to the case, Eastpointe police confirmed the suspect was a relative of the victim.

Authorities said they became aware of the fatal incident when a man came into their station around 3:30 p.m. on June 16 and told officers he believed his uncle had been murdered inside a home in the 16000 block of Stricker Ave, near 8 Mile and Gratiot.

Police were dispatched to the home for a follow-up investigation where they encountered a relative inside. During their search, detectives discovered evidence of foul play and questioned the relative, who police said had became a suspect in the case.

The suspect was arrested.

A short time later, police made their way into the back of the home where a 48-year-old man was found deceased with a gunshot wound.

The suspect, whose identity was not released, remains in custody at the Eastpointe Police Department. Detectives are expected to present the case to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office for a decision on appropriate charges.

No other information was released by authorities. At this time, it remains unclear what circumstances led to the fatal shooting.
