
DETROIT (WWJ) - One man is in custody after police say he shot and killed his nephew at a birthday party on Detroit's eastside on Tuesday and then showed up armed with a gun at a local hospital.
The Detroit Police Department said the incident took place around 7:30 p.m. in the 9000 block of Bishop Street, near I-94 and Cadieux, in Detroit.
According to police, a man was attending a birthday party when he fatally shot his nephew in a "domestic incident."
The deceased is believed to be in his early 50s, but no exact age has been confirmed by police.
The suspect then fled the scene.
Shortly after the shooting, Detroit Police Commander Ryan Connor said the man was "taken into custody at a local hospital" where he showed up armed with a handgun.
"We were alerted by hospital security [and the] suspect was taken into custody by officers from the 12th Precinct," Connor said.
No other details were released. An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
