WARREN (WWJ) -- A deadly officer-involved shooting is under investigation in Warren.
According to investigators, the shooting happened just after 10 p.m. Monday following a domestic disturbance at a home in the 27000 block of Railroad St., near 11 Mile Rd. and Van Dyke Ave.
Police said a female 911 caller reported that her boyfriend, a 41-year-old Warren man, was inside the house, possibly hiding under a bed. "The female caller further advised dispatch that the male suspect made threats to harm officers with the knife," according to a news release by the Warren Police Department.
When police arrived, the woman told them her boyfriend had fled the area on foot, and was last seen walking by the railroad tracks nearby.
When officers caught up with the man, in the area of George Merrelli Dr. and Lorna Ave., police said officers ordered him several times to drop his weapon — which police described as an ice pick — but he refused.
Police deployed a Taser, but it was ineffective. When the man still refused to drop his weapon he was shot by officers, police said,
The man was taken by EMS to a local hospital where he died of his injuries.
No officers were injured.
Police said the four officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, as is policy, as the incident is investigated.
Officials did not release the Warren man's name, but said he had several police contacts for domestic-violence incidents, disorderly conduct, and assaults on police officers, and had active warrants for his arrest.
