(WWJ) Hundreds of local families will have a big turkey on their Thanksgiving table this year -- thanks to a marijuana dispensary.

Greenhouse of Walled Lake dispensary owner Jerry Millen, who grew up in a "humble working-class home" in suburban Detroit, says he knows what it’s like to wonder where a next meal is coming from -- and also the importance of families being together to celebrate the holidays.

With so many families struggling financially during the COVID-19 pandemic, Millen is giving back to the community by making sure that at least 500 families will have a "robust" turkey to enjoy this Thanksgiving.

All residents have to do to be eligible is to go THIS LINK or call Greenhouse of Walled Lake at 1-833-MI Green (644-7336) to reserve their turkey.

Millen is giving away an additional 100 turkeys to Hospitality House of Commerce Township who in turn will give them away to needy families.

“So many families are dealing with financial hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors and I want to assist them so they can have a meaningful Thanksgiving," Millen said, in a news release. "I am proud that the Greenhouse of Walled Lake can step up and meet this challenge so our friends, neighbors, and customers can enjoy the holiday."

Greenhouse of Walled Lake, located at 103 East Walled Lake Drive, is Oakland County’s first fully licensed medical and recreational marijuana dispensary.
