FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) — A popular Metro Detroit attraction is getting a new — and much bigger — place to call home.
The owner of Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum announced on Facebook Monday night after months of searching, he has found a new building to house the entertainment center.
Marvin’s will be relocating to the Orchard Mall in West Bloomfield, on the northeast corner of Maple and Orchard Lake Roads next to the Planet Fitness.
The museum was forced to find a new home after the Farmington Hills City Council in February approved a redevelopment plan for the Hunter’s Square Shopping Center, the current home of Marvin’s, at Orchard Lake and 14 Mile Roads. The redevelopment plan is set to feature a new Meijer and several restaurants.
Second-generation owner Jeremy Yagoda told WWJ Newsradio 950’s Kyle Kimball he knew he had to make the most out of the council’s decision.
“When life hands you lemons, just make lemonade. Make the best out of what you’re given,” he said.
Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum has featured 5,300 square feet of vintage coin-operated machines, macabre, oddities, unusual nostalgia, and the newest video game crazes, according to Marvin’s website.
Yagoda said the new location will be nearly triple the size, at just over 14,000 square feet.
“It’s gonna enable us to expand, to have some private party rooms, to spread things out a little bit more and to have some new, exciting attractions,” Yagoda said.
Marvin’s will remain open at the Farmington Hills location until Jan. 5. Yagoda has not yet determined an opening date for the new location, but he said he is shooting for late May or early June, following a build-out that will take some time.
In a Facebook post announcing the move, Yagoda said he is “sad to leave Farmington Hills as the whole city has been MARVELOUS but this was the best location we found! Sad to leave Hunters Square but time to start the next chapter for MMMM.”
Yagoda said he will keep fans updated on Facebook as the relocation process moves along.
