WAYNE COUNTY (WWJ) -- Children and staff at Wayne County schools are no longer required to wear masks.

Just a day after the Michigan Health Department ended their public health advisory on masking in indoor public settings, including schools, Wayne County has done the same.

The County's Chief Medical and Health Officer rescinded the emergency health order Thursday morning, despite stating last week that the mandate would be lifted at the end of the month.

This decision comes after COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continue to decline in the area.

Health officials said that those who are recovering from COVID, or have symptoms, should still continue to mask up.
