DETROIT (WWJ) -- No matter which way you cut it, 12 years is a long time to invest into a relationship — whether that be your football team or your phone.
That’s the premise of a new AT&T commercial starring former Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford.
The ad -- which was released this week in conjunction with the kickoff of March Madness -- shows the now Super Bowl-winning QB talking about trading in his phone, but continuing to love it no matter what.
“So you can take your old phone that you’ve had for 12 years and loved every minute of it, and trade it in for something that suits your life now? And enjoy immediate success? Even though you’ll never forget your old phone, ever?” Stafford says.
"It's a great trade," the AT&T actress says, to which Stafford responds, "Life-changing," with a wink at the camera.
Matthew Stafford was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in 2021 and went on to win the Super Bowl in his very first season as quarterback. Despite relocating to LA, Stafford and his wife Kelly continue to show their love for Detroit.
"There's no reason for them to cheer for me anymore and the fact that they did is just a true testament to who they are as people and who they are as fans," Stafford said of Detroit after his Super Bowl win. "To have that support all the way across the country means the world to me. They helped us through a bunch of times and they're the reason I'm sitting here today."
