HARRISON TWP. (WWJ) -- A 25-year-old man is facing charges after he allegedly got lost and jumped the fence at the Selfridge Air National Guard base.
Sgt. Renee Yax with the Macomb County Sheriff's Office says the Ypsilanti man reported he was a passenger in a car when he got into an argument with the driver around 6 a.m. on Wednesday.
He then got dropped off, but he claimed he had no idea where he was, so when he saw the lights at Selfridge Air National Guard base, he jumped the fence.
The man was soon taken into custody by guards and found to be carrying an unloaded gun.
Yax says there's many reasons why this incident could have occurred, including his unfamiliarity with the area, the lack of light and his level of intoxication. However, she said this isn't up to her to speculate.
"We just know that he's here, and he is safe," said Yax.
He's charged with trespassing and carrying a concealed weapon while intoxicated, which are both misdemeanors.
