SHELBY TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A memorial coin featuring a Shelby Township Police Department officer who died suddenly while on duty earlier this month has been created to help out his family, officials say.

The Collin Rose Memorial Foundation unveiled the Challenge Coin in Memory of fallen Sergeant Daniel Kammerzell, 51, which is now available for pre-sale.

"This is a dedicated fundraiser for our supporters and the public to help the Kammerzell family," organizers said. "All sale proceeds will be forwarded to his widow and daughter to use as they see fit."

The coin, which is being sold for $15, reflects Kammerzell honorable work throughout his highly decorated career in service, with his last 18 dedicated to the Shelby Township Police Department.

"Prior to working at Shelby Township, he worked for the Detroit Police Department, and is a United States Marine Corps veteran. Sergeant Kammerzell was highly decorated for his honorable work. Throughout his career he was an Evidence Technician, a Field Training Officer, a Detective, Assistant Team Leader of the Tactical Response Unit, Range Instructor, and training coordinator," authorities said.

"Sergeant Kammerzell always came to work in a great mood; cracking jokes and making everyone laugh. His families, both blood and blue, request privacy and time to mourn this tragic circumstance," the statement went on.

"We thank you Sergeant Kammerzell for your dedication to this community. Rest in peace, brother, you will be greatly missed."

Kammerzell was found unresponsive in his patrol vehicle while on duty on Nov. 5. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The passing does not involve any suspicious or criminal circumstance, officials said.

Organizers said the coins were ordered through El-Hefe Designs on November 14 and will take 6 to 8 weeks to produce. Orders are expected to ship the week of Jan. 9, 2023 and buyers will be provided a tracking number at that time.
