HARPER WOODS (WWJ) -- One Metro Detroit community is fed up with aggressive drivers speeding down neighborhood streets -- so local law enforcement has been called in for help.
In a response to several crashes, speeders and drag racers on neighborhood streets, the City of Harper Woods has partnered with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and Harper Woods Department of Public Safety for a two-day crackdown.
Harper Woods Mayor Valerie Kindle said they needed all the help they could get to get people to police their streets and keep people safe -- especially while many young kids are out for the summer.
Harper Woods Director of Public Safety Jason Hammerle said he's seen his fair share of crashes from cars speeding or outright disregarding traffic signals or stop signs. He said they're going to do everything they can to fix it so there can be safer streets for everybody.
Law enforcement officials will be out between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday patrolling the city and neighborhood streets.
