
(WWJ) -- During the 40 days of the Christian observance of Lent, those within the faith abstain from eating red meat on Fridays.
So, during this time of year, you’ll see advertisements for Fish Fry dinners popping up across Metro Detroit, at churches, social clubs and even local restaurants.
We asked WWJ’s social media followers where to find the best fish fries during Lent in Metro Detroit, and here were the most popular responses:
1. Sweetest Heart of Mary Catholic Church — Located at 4440 Russell St. in Detroit, the church’s Fish Fry runs 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. in the parish hall every Friday
2. St. Anne’s Church on Mound in Warren — Located at 32000 Mound Road in Warren, the church's fish fry happens every Friday through Lent, from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m.
3. St. Francis D'Assisi: St. Hedwig Parish — Located at 3245 Junction Street in Detroit, the church's fish fry happens every Friday of Lent at their Parish Hall on Wesson & Buchanan from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.
4. VFW Bruce Post in St. Clair Shores — Located at 28404 Jefferson Ave in St. Clair Shores, this VFW's Friday Fish Fry happens every week from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m.
5. Scotty Simpson's Fish & Chips — Located at 22200 Fenkell Ave in Detroit, this beloved Detroit restaurant serves up delicious fish and chips year-round. Get your Fish Fry on Fridays from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m., cash only.
